UPDATE REGARDING LAPO CLOSURE/REOPENING

Kansas Stargazers,COVID has caused disruption in all our lives (I promise we will never use the phrase "in these uncertain times") and has affected many of our jobs, social activities, access to medical care, and more.

After careful consideration, we have concluded that LAPO would be unable to effectively allow visitors to safely socially distance inside the confined space of the Observatory, and we have decided to remain closed through at least September 30th.

Until then, we will be monitoring the situation and subsequent decisions regarding a reopening date will be announced on our social media at the earliest (safe) opportunity.

Fortunately, access to the night sky is not entirely dependent on whether our doors are currently locked. We will do our best to keep you all up to date on night sky events which hopefully will not require a large telescope to see, including meteor showers and planetary lineups - and we would like to extend our thanks to Comet NEOWISE for setting such a good example in this regard.

Until then, we hope you all remain safe and healthy. Wear your masks, maintain a safe distance, and hopefully soon we can put this all behind us.
